SHIRT RESEARCH- TYPES OF SHIRTS

To start off the project I wanted to take a look at some of the possibilities I had in terms of the type of shirt I was making. I did some research and shortlisted a selection of designs by some of my favourite designers and brands. Each are different in their own way and all of which I have pulled some sort of inspiration from to use for the shirt design of my own. I tend to wear cropped shirts as opposed to an normal length shirt, as I feel they flatter me more and also allows for my belts I wear to be seen more clearly, in addition to this I also know I want a looser fitting shirt, especially around the arms and also want it to include a dropped shoulder. I'd say my style is quite 'boyish' and so I think these design elements will lend themselves to this well.

SUPREME

S/S 16

STRIPED POLO JUMPER

This piece was one of my favourites from Supremes last Spring Summer collection. Although not a style I would usually wear myself, I can really appreciate it and visually love the style. I feel if I made the necessary adaptations which I know I want to include within my own shirt, such as cropping to a length that would suit me, I feel it could work well. I love the simplicity of this piece, its one of the few unbranded pieces in the Supreme collection but this lends itself well to the style and cut of the shirt. Everything from the spacing between the buttons and the length between the two collar points is what makes this shirt so clean cut and perfect.

SAMI MIRO VINTAGE

ORANGE CROPPED JACKET

MENS PARIS FASHION WEEK'17

Bella Hadid, for me, has to be one of the best dressed celebrities, and a definite style icon of mine. I remember when I first saw the images of her at Heron Prestons show at Paris fashion week, her outfit here is just amazing. The skirt is Heron Prestons "Handle with Care" skirt (which I love!) and the jacket is a Sami Miro Vintage piece. It's so simple, but I love everything about it. The colour, the shape, the length. Although technically more of a jacket than a shirt, the style of it is just very me and I think I can definitely pull some aspects and ideas from this for my own shirt design.

PALACE X ADIDAS

SSL POLO SHIRT

S/S 16

I usually find the Palace and Adidas collaborations quite uninteresting, maybe because they're more targeted toward guys who play football. But I do like aspects of this polo shirt. The half zip running down the front for example. I prefer this to the two or three buttons you usually see. I like the way the zip finishes at the top of the shirt, it almost separates the collar more.

SUPREME X LACOSTE

LONG SLEEVE JERSEY POLO

S/S 17

For me this was one of the most underrated pieces of Supremes collaboration with Lacoste. I love the Rugby shirt style and the slightly relaxed fit. This was my favourite colour way, with the horizontal stripes running across the jumper. The shape of this for me is perfect, however I would definitely size up to create the baggy and loose fit which I like in my tops. The actual style of the shirt, I love, its almost more of a jersey with collar than an actual button down shirt, which is definitely a look I can see my own shirt having.

GOLF WANG

FLAME SHIRT

S/S 15

I've never been a big fan of a bowling shirt, especially not on girls. But Golfs Flame Shirt is a definite exception. I'm not sure if it's because I've always been a sucker for flames or if its the amazingly saturated colours that I love about this, but it really is amazing. There is literally nothing I hate about it, yet I feel like there is so much I should!!! The shape of it is great, I like the loose fit and the dropped shoulders however I know for a fact I won't be making a short sleeves shirt, just because I feel they don't suit me. For my own shirt I would also bring the collar up, rather than having the almost 'V-neck' collar, but it works great for this style of shirt.

VETEMENTS X COMME DES GARÇONS

OVERSIZED STRIPED COTTON-POPLIN SHIRT

The shape of this shirt is my dream come true! I'm not a huge fan of button down shirts on girls, especially really fitted ones- for me it looks too formal, and is not something I would wear everyday. But if someone offered me Vetements and Come Des Garçons oversized shirt, I would not be turning it down. I love this. I love the relaxed boyfriend fit. I love the size of the cuffs. I love the height of the collar. I love it all! The whole design of this, for me, is perfect. I hope to use the looseness around the arms from this in my own design, as well as the excessively dropped shoulder and the exaggerated collar.
