PATTERN CUTTING- SHIRT PROJECT

I entered todays session of what I thought was a fairly clear idea of the shirt I wanted to create but left with a completely different one. I had already drawn up the pattern for the body and sleeve prior to this session and dropped the shoulder and lengthened the sleeve. However when creating my toile I soon found the sleeve and arm hole didn't fit together as well as hoped, this was due to an error I had made in my measurements on my pattern. I also found, once the toile was sewn together I wanted to drop the shoulder significantly more and create a much longer sleeve to it would stack around my arm. I would sew in the sleeve, try on the toile, reassess what I had made, go back to the pattern, change the pattern, unpick the previous sleeve, draw out the new design and then sew in the new sleeve. I have still not yet created my perfect sleeve.
I spent the majority of the session trying to fix my pattern making sure each measurement is perfect for the real thing. Some of the ideas for the details of my shirt have also changed. I now want a zip running down the middle of the shirt rather than buttons. I think this would lend itself better to the cropped, more modern look to the shirt, but in turn means my collar shape will have to change.
